Many people suffer from medical conditions that fall into the category of “digestive problems.” Acid reflux and ulcers are just some of the most common ailments that affect these individuals. More and more people are hoping to avoid using medication for treatment and are turning to more natural alternative therapies for relief.
Today, there are plenty of ways to treat certain illnesses naturally. For many, all it takes is research and an open mind. Here are 3 common alternative treatments that are currently used frequently to help alleviate the symptoms of digestive problems.
1. Yoga
Yoga has been the go-to method for many different reasons. The mental and physical benefits are what have made it so popular today. Basic yoga poses such as the pose of the child and the cat stretch has been proven to help the digestive system.
2. Acupuncture
Acupuncture is another method that has been used for digestive problems. Doctors and scientist about its effectiveness have long criticized this ancient Chinese medicine. However, many who have tried acupuncture will swear by the results.
Acupuncture involves inserting thin, painless needles into the skin. It can manipulate nerves, energy and pressure points. Relief from pain is the most common reason for acupuncture. Of course, acupuncture will not help everyone and every condition. However, this ancient medicine is still being used for a reason.
3. Herbal Remedies
The use of herbs is one the most recommended forms of alternative medicine. There are herbs suggested to treat almost any medical illness. Remedies like Filipendula Ulmaria are known to aid the digestive tract. Like medication, herbal remedies can have side effects. One should do their research before consumption.
Our bodies need to be cleansed one way or another. Eating habits can often prevent toxins from leaving our bodies, as they should. An occasional natural cleanse is an excellent choice for digestive health. The most popular is a colon cleanse. This process leaves the body feeling rejuvenated and will allow easier bowel movements.
Improving your digestive system can be simple. It begins with what you eat and how you eat it. Drinking plenty of water will be the first step to promoting digestive health. One should include fiber in their diet and try not to overeat. Many people overlook the benefits of yogurt in their diet also. The bacteria in yogurt can help with several problems, including irritable bowel syndrome.
Holistic remedies are very beneficial to one’s health. Depending on the situation, there could be great results. However, holistic treatment is not effective for all medical problems. Therefore, it is advised to speak with your doctor about your treatment options.

Yeah, I like holistic and herbal remedies, but there are also a lot of natural foods that can help with certain ailments. When it comes to digestive problems, one definitely needs to research about healthier alternatives and possible helpful supplements. It is funny that I ran across this post because earlier today, I seen a blog post about where somebody was bragging about the digestive health benefits of Glutamine.
I looked it up on Wikipedia, and it stated that “Glutamine is not recognized as an essential amino acid but may become conditionally essential in certain situations, including intensive athletic training or certain gastrointestinal disorders.” I know radishes are especially helpful for digestive health along with several other things. Well, just thought I’d stop by and add to your list of possible remedies; cheers!
Asking questions are actually good thing if you are not understanding something completely, but this article provides good understanding even.
Acupuncture is an interesting one. I am still not a 100% convinced it truly works, however I remember my sister once visited one to aid her headache, and by the end of the day it was gone. Not sure if it was in fact the acupuncture treatment or some other medicine.
I personally get petrified hearing the fact that they would put needles in your body, acupuncture definitely isn’t for me.
I used yoga as a method to help me with my digestion, after suffering various indigestion issues and must say it was like magic, great for my health. I also lost some weight and made new friends at my yoga class. Yoga is not just something that is just for medical purpose, but also helps spiritual purposes. It made me feel light and like I was floating. I had some anger problems also which it solved. Yoga is really a great therapy that has made me happy and healthy, feel like a child now.
It would also help to go easy on the processed food, to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, and use locally grown or organic products whenever possible (and without spending too much, preferably).

I always recommend herbal remedies to relieve symptoms of digestive problems. Having a diet rich in fiber is a good way to prevent digestive problems and also helps clean your digestive tract of the toxins and wastes. The side effects of herbal medicines are bearable compared to the side effects of prescription drugs unless you are eating something poisonous.

I use massage as well as acupuncture from one of my natural home headache remedies. I find the combo lowers the pain and frequency.

I have tried all kinds of things to improve my digestion and for me, herbs were the most successful. Acupuncture didn’t help at all. And while I love yoga and find it very helpful for stress and depression, it didn’t do much for my digestion.

Yoga for me is very effective especially when I already feel the pressure from work and other activities. It can bring back my energy physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Herbal medicine is quite alright. I never tried Acupuncture, I guess it’s from Chinese beliefs. Well, whatever remedies you practice these days, let’s just make sure that they are all good and safe to use. Remember, our body is our own responsibility and prevention is better than cure…ALWAYS!

It is difficult to think that acupuncture can treat digestive problems equally or better than something you drink like herbal tea, but it worked for my wife long time ago and thats why I finally became a doctor in this amazing alternative medicine.
Obviously I dont discredit the others treatments, they are all good for you, I just wanted to share my experiencie.
Bye!
I was suffering from indigestion and a sore throat 4 days ago and my wife advised me to see the family physician. I was surprised what the Doc prescribed me. Ginger? are you kidding me? He just smiled at me and said try it 3 times a day for three days. If it gets worsen come back here. The prescription was to bring ginger into boil and Gargle it lukewarm. It worked!
Acupuncture is for everyone and it is not painful as you think of it. Don’t be scared of needles for the one that we’re using is very thin that you can’t barely feel nothing during treatment. After the session you will feel relief and some changes because of the natural healing effect of it on body function.
Yoga is a great alternative treatment not only for digestive problems but for other illnesses as well.
Well said Danica – Yoga is one of the best treatment ever I have experienced personally, by doing Yoga everyday – feels very refreshing mind as well body…everyone should do it regularly, even you know while keep doing exercise regularly you can through decisses away..You know one of my Uncle was suffering from Cancer, but he is now fit & fine due to exercise, I know you will not believe this but its True..
Such a great article treatment for digestive problems.
I have reed all of your problems. Its human nature, many people suffer from some medical issues apart from this digestive system is an problem for who does not taking a diet or an proper food.
My wife has frequent digestive issues and acid reflux. She currently uses Omeprazole to help relieve the acid reflux. She also had me raise the head of our bed about 4 inches at the suggestion from her doctor. I plan on mentioning the three alternative treatments of Yoga, Acupuncture, and Herbal Remedies you have presented in this article.
Thanks
Larry
