How I Made $500 on Craigslist in 2 Weeks

Guest Article by Heather Green

Who couldn’t use a little extra cash? After having a baby, I had one of “those” weeks that found me looking in the couch cushions for spare change. Not quite ready to start panhandling, I remembered someone telling me that the best place to start making money, is at home. Yard sales, eBay and Craigslist are white hot places to sell your stuff right now, so not one to go against the flow, I gave it a whirl!

What I Sold

I tried eBay to sell my jewelry, but there were so many large companies that would post so many items after me that I got lost in the mix and never even had a bid. Yard sales are great, but it’s a roll of the dice when it comes to weather, what type of people show up and if anyone is buying or just looking.

So I Googled “Best selling items on Craigslist” and that helped somewhat as I found that electronics such as video game consoles, laptops and the like are top sellers. But I’m a stay at home mom with a house full of extra clothing and furniture that I rarely use! To my surprise, after posting an area rug and upright mixer, I received 3 e-mails about these unused items within a few hours.

How to Sell Your Stuff

Being a Craigslist virgin, I was a little concerned about complete strangers coming to my home. So I waited until my husband was off work and scheduled times for people to drop by. I sold both items in a few days and posted another rug and car seat, which sold in 3 days!! I made $500 in one week and I am now hooked! In my experience, the best sellers have been furniture, musical instruments and kitchen appliances. A great way to make extra cash without even leaving your home!
